Cyber Crime — Frequently Asked Questions
What should I do first after an online fraud?
Call 1930 or report at cybercrime.gov.in immediately, inform your bank, and keep screenshots, transaction IDs and chat records. Quick reporting gives the best chance of freezing the money.
Can money lost in a cyber fraud be recovered?
Money is often frozen in the receiving accounts if the fraud is reported quickly. Getting it released back to you usually requires following a process with the bank, the police and sometimes the court.
Can a fake profile or defamatory post be removed?
Yes. Complaints can be made to the platform's grievance officer under the IT Rules, 2021, and where needed the court can order removal.
