Delhi High Court — Frequently Asked Questions
What is a writ petition?
A writ petition under Article 226 of the Constitution asks the High Court to direct a government authority or public body to act lawfully — for example in service, education, licensing or other administrative matters.
Can I go directly to the Supreme Court?
Only in limited situations — under Article 32 for the enforcement of fundamental rights, or through a Special Leave Petition against a High Court order. Supreme Court matters are filed through an Advocate-on-Record.
Can an urgent matter be heard quickly?
Yes. Urgent matters can be mentioned before the court for early listing, provided the urgency is genuine and properly explained.
